Hostage Georgian referee released

South Ossetian separatists released a Georgian referee who was kidnapped on Feb. 7. Four armed men attacked a Mercedes with Georgian football league referees in Zugdidi.

The gunmen beat three referees and took Malkhaz Beuklishvili hostage.

They demanded $50,000 ransom.

As the men were not able to get the demanded amount, Beuklishvili was released, the South Ossetia police said. No ransom was paid.

Beuklishvili said the gunmen held him under normal conditions.
