Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 9 / Trend , J.Babayeva/
The Azerbaijani opposition Civil Solidarity Party (CSP) plans to hold protests at the Iranian Embassy.
The party's youth organization appealed to the Baku City Administration on Feb. 9 requesting permission to protest an alleged campaign against Azerbaijani statehood on the Iranian Sahar television channel in front of the country's embassy in Baku, the CSP told Trend . The protest will be held on Feb. 17.
The party said Sahar broadcasts programs criticizing Azerbaijani statehood and slandering and humiliating governmental and academic figures.
The CSP appealed to the government to prevent Sahar from broadcasting its programs in Azerbaijan.
As Feb. 21 is International Native Language Day, the protesters will also demand that Turks living in southern Azerbaijan receive the right to study in their mother tongue.
The CSP was founded in September 1992 by intelligentsia under the leadership of Sabir Rustamkhanli. The party passed registration later that year. The CSP has 80 regional organizations and over 35,000 members. Member of parliament and People's Poet Rustamkhanli is party chairman.
