Iran's supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei is signaling the Islamic government may be easing up the opposition contesting the June presidential election, Associated Press reported.
In a speech Sunday marking end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Khamenei says "what a suspect says in a court against a third party has no legitimate validity."
His remark appear to refer to testimony by some detainees who claim that former President Hashemi Rafsanjani and other reformists supported opposition leader Mir Hossein Moussavi in the June 12 vote to weaken Khamenei.
The election, seen by critics as marred by fraud, handed President Mahmoud Ahmadenijad a second term. But thousands were arrested and dozens have been brought to court in mass trials.
