Turkmenistan takes decisive steps to use all possible forms and methods to combat drug addiction - this addiction that can deprive a person of the future, profession, family, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's appeal says.

Turkmenistan takes decisive steps to use all possible forms and methods to combat drug addiction - this addiction that can deprive a person of the future, profession, family, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's appeal says.

The message is timed to 3rd anniversary of the State Service on Combating Drugs.

Ashgabat recently hosted negotiations between the country's leadership and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, who stressed the "mutual interest in uniting forces of Turkmenistan and the European countries to combat today's security challenges".  

"The EU welcomes and supports Turkmenistan's efforts to combat illicit trafficking of narcotic substances, along with those seeking to help promote socio-economic situation in Afghanistan," he said.

As part of the National Program, Turkmenistan, which borders with Afghanistan, is also working to combat drug trafficking, drug prevention, detection and treatment of people who are prone to use drugs.

Turkmen leader in his speech on Tuesday mentioned "a worthy contribution of employees of the State Service on Combating Drugs, who tirelessly and selflessly have been fighting against the terrible scourge for all mankind - drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking."

The text states that Turkmenistan takes measures to destroy narcotic drugs seized as a result of skillful actions of law-enforcement officers."

As reported by local media outlets, large quantities of drugs weighing 702 kg seized by the competent authorities of the country in successfully carried out special operations was destroyed in December 2010, near Ashgabat in the town of Kasamly Dzhulge.
