The position of several German media outlets towards Azerbaijan does not reflect the true position of German leadership towards the country, German Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Herbert Quelle was quoted as saying this at a forum organised between businessmen of Azerbaijan and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany).
"Germany has no negative attitude to Azerbaijan. We are interested in developing cooperation," Quelle said.
The sharp rise in criticism against Azerbaijan was recorded after the victory of Azerbaijani participants at the Eurovision-2011.
Prior to that, people in Germany knew too little about our country, but after the victory the interest has sharply increased, Quelle said.
"Some Azerbaijani media outlets claim that the German leadership controls the German media in the area of human rights, media freedom and political prisoners, but by example of the former president Christian Wulff the entire world was convinced that the German media are free in their activities," Quelle said.
Quelle also denied rumours that the German Embassy creates problems in issuing visas at the authorities' instructions.
"Those, who are interested in our activity, may obtain information on our website and in case of problems, we try to solve them," Quelle said.
