Azerbaijan, Baku, July 6 / Trend /
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran, Mahammadbagir Bahrami, in connection with the completion of his diplomatic mission, the Foreign Ministry told Trend on Friday.
At the meeting the sides exchanged views on bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Iran.
The minister informed the ambassador about the serious concern of Azerbaijani society over detention in Iran of two young poets, who are citizens of Azerbaijan.
Mammadyarov said that despite the five notes, handed over by Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry to the Iranian side, the answers were short and incomplete.
Mammadyarov demanded from the Iranian ambassador to arrange a meeting of Azerbaijani consul with arrested poets under international law, including the Vienna Convention.
He expressed the hope that the steps taken by the Iranian side on this issue will be in the spirit of friendly relations between the two neighboring states.
