The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Lithuania Hasan Mammadzadeh met with the chairman of the Lithuanian Seimas Vidas Gedvilas on March 20, the embassy told Trend on Wednesday.

Again made statements regarding the creation of the 'friendship group with " Nagorno Karabakh "' in the Seimas, besmirching those relations, was also discussed.

Azerbaijani ambassador noted that the creation of this group in the supreme legislative body of Lithuania is considered by Azerbaijan as a violation of its territorial integrity and sovereignty and also as support for separatism and disrespect for international law principles.

Chairman of the Seimas Vidas Gedvilas noted that the position of Lithuania on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unchanged.

Declaring again the recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan by Lithuania, Gedvilas noted that the personal initiative of some parliamentarians is not the official position of Seimas.

He also noted that no changes have been made in the foreign policy course of the country.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Seimas Benediktas Juodka, which took part at the meeting, noted that this initiative contradicts the general line of foreign policy of the country and the leaders of the Seimas held an urgent meeting and recognised such actions totally unacceptable.

According to him, the number of group members is already reducing. However, according to the Seimas charter, any MP can express his or her personal opinion on any issue.
