BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 11

By Ilhama Isabalayeva - Trend:

Korea and Azerbaijan have been strengthening cooperation in many fields, including the political, economic and cultural spheres, since 1992 when diplomatic relations were established between the two countries, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Azerbaijan Kim Tong-op said.

The ambassador made the remark in Baku at the conference on strengthening human resources and ICT in the preparation of official statistics, Trend reports on Dec. 11.

“The mutual cooperation between the two countries is maintained at a high level, as well as within the presidents’ visits,” Kim Tong-op said.

"The visit of the chairman of the National Council of the National Assembly of Korea to Azerbaijan can be cited as an example,” the ambassador said. “The companies of both countries successfully cooperate in the import and export of building materials, IT equipment and consumer goods.”

“Moreover, amid the global events that are popular in the Korean society, public and diplomatic events are held in Azerbaijan to promote Korea’s traditions and culture,” the ambassador said.

Kim Tong-op stressed that among the efforts to develop the bilateral relations, the implementation of the projects within the international cooperation has a special role.

The ambassador added that despite Korea was on the list of the world's poorest countries, it has achieved modernization and industrialization in a short period.

“Korea implements grant projects not only with Tokyo’s International Cooperation Organization, but also with other structures,” Kim Tong-op said.

“Along with the possession of rich natural resources, Azerbaijan also implements the state program to promote the non-oil sector,” the ambassador said.

"The process of compiling the accurate statistics in this important process will help to more accurately determine the current and future directions of Azerbaijan’s development,” the ambassador added. “I am sure that this cooperation between the two countries in the field of statistics will be important and will make a significant contribution to the aforementioned work."
