GUAM Countries to Meet in Krakow

Ukraine, Kiev / Trend corr Z. Novosvitski / The members of the Organization for Democracy and Development GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova) will meet within the Energy Summit held in Krakow on 11 May, the press service of Ukraine reported with reference to the visit of the Ukrainian President Victor Yushenko.

Presidents of the GUAM countries will view the beginning of the work of the GUAM administrative department in Kiev as well as preparations for the GUAM summit in Baku, scheduled for June 2007.

The unofficial Energy Summit is attended by the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Poland President Lech Kaczynski, Ukrainian President Victor Yushenko, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, Lithuanian President Valdes Adamcus and Kazakhstan's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Baktikozh Izmukhambetov.

The purpose of the summit is to work out complex guarantees for unimpeded transit of energy both for national economies and vector "East-West", which would balance the Energy Charter with the interests of the producer countries, carriers and consumers of energy.
