According to Habil Sadigov, the Director of the Lankaran Hygiene and Epidemiology Centre, only in January 5 people became infected with hepatitis В, 3 with hepatitis С. The number of hepatitis patients is increasing every year in Azerbaijan. Last year the number of hepatitis А patients was 7, hepatitis В patients - 20, hepatitis С patients - 11. In 2006, those infected in hepatitis А numbered 10, hepatitis В - 7, hepatitis С -3. According to Sadigov, the hepatitis carriers in Lankaran are mainly drug addicts.
Lankaran is located 270km south of Baku.
