Brazil defeat US to taken women's volleyball title

World No. 1 Brazil defeated the United States in four sets on Saturday to win their first ever women's volleyball gold medal at an Olympic Games, the dpa reported.

The powerful Brazilian squad coasted to a 25-15, 18-25, 25-13, 25- 21 victory over their silver medalist rivals.

The Brazilians dropped just one set throughout the entire tournament.

Earlier, defending Olympic champions China took bronze after beating Cuba 25-16, 21-25, 25-13, 25-20.

It was the first time Cuba had been left without a volleyball medal after winning gold in Sydney, Atlanta and Barcelona and bronze in Athens four years ago.

Brazil's men will be hoping to emulate the feat of of their female compatriots when they face the US in the men's final on Sunday.
