First classes in all Azerbaijani educational institutions on day of Khojali tragedy to be dedicated to genocide

First classes in all Azerbaijani educational institutes will be dedicated to the genocide on the 17th anniversary of the Khojali tragedy on Feb.26.

Information about the Khojali tragedy will be placed in Internet websites of all educational institutes on the basis of the order of the Minister of Education Misir Mardanov.

Educational institutes will hold exhibitions, mourning rallies, memory, demonstrate documentary and artistic movies, meetings with witnesses of genocide.

Heads of educational institutions, district and municipal education departments were instructed to implements these arrangements.

On the night of February 25, 1992, Armenian separatists seized the Khojali settlement in Nagorno-Karabakh. Russian tanks played an active role in capturing the area. Within hours, over 600 unarmed Azerbaijani citizens were killed. Among them were 106 women and 83 children. The massacre continued for days, while the Armenian separatists killed their hostages and cut the heads off of Azerbaijani military personnel. A total of 487 people were left disabled and 1,275 people were taken prisoner. The fate of 150 people remains unknown.

The Azerbaijani government examines an issue to file a suit at the international Hague court against Armenia on the Khojali genocide, the Presidential Administration Public-Political Department Head Ali Hasanov said.
