Minister: Azerbaijan develops natural disaster action plan

Azerbaijan will allocate extra funds from the public budget to eliminate the consequences of the natural disaster in Aran, Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov said today.

"Additional funds to deal with the consequences of floods and heavy rains will be allocated according to an Azerbaijani presidential decree," Sharifov said.

He added that a detailed action plan covering 2010-2011 has been already determined.

"The process of eliminating the consequences of the natural disaster is long term," Sharifov said.

In recent weeks, floods occurred in 40 districts of Azerbaijan due to the rise of the Kur River and heavy rainfalls. As a result, about 20,000 houses were flooded, more than 300 were destroyed, 2,000 became unsafe and 50,000 hectares of cultivated land were left under water.
