A protocol on expectancies on cooperation in the field of TV and radio is expected to be signed between Azerbaijan and Turkey in the beginning of 2007, Nushiravan Maharramli, Chairman of the national TV and Radio Council, told Trend.

He said that a delegation from Turkey will arrive to Azerbaijan in the spring of 2007. During the visit of the delegation, the two countries are expected to sign the expectancies protocol. The forthcoming protocol envisages cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of TV and Radio, as well as other forms of cooperation.

The above-mentioned issues were discussed during the recent visit of Mr. Maharramli to Turkey, where he got acquainted with the Turkish National Council decision regarding the broadcast of foreign TV channels.

The Turkish colleagues agreed with the decisions. Everybody agreed that foreign TV channels should not broadcast via local ones. There is a practice when the foreign channels broadcast by satellites and cable antennas, Mr. Maharramli said.

According to Mr. Maharramli, if the agreement signed with a foreign TV channel says that the channel is to broadcast at a local frequency, then the above-mentioned channel will keep on its broadcasting at this frequency. He also said that in 1990, Azerbaijan signed corresponding agreements on broadcasting with all the foreign TV channels that currently operate in the country.
