Azerbaijan, Sheki / Тrend corr E. Guliyev / As a result of increasing electromagnetic radiation of Azerbaijan's Gabala radar station, the population of nearby villages are requiring medical aid more frequently.

The number of patients with asthma, hypertension and anaemia has recently increased, the Head Physician of Gabala Region Central Hospital, Seyran Rasulov, said. According to him, in 2006 only about 1,100 of 1,548 women in childbirth were suffering from anaemia. Rasulov did not exclude the influence of radiation on the residents of the region.

Diseases in children in that region have greatly increased and local residents have reported to Trend that the harvest of agriculture products has decreased. Holes appear on the leaves of walnut trees which are durable to radiation. In addition, due to the radiation in the area of Kichik Amili village, which is located near to the radar station, the snow never sets.

The Gabala region is located 220km north-west of Baku.
