The technologies of the future would also enable hydrogen to travel through the Southern Gas Corridor, Head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan Kestutis Jankauskas said in an interview with Trend.
"Good cooperation has been established between the EU and Azerbaijan in the fields of energy, transport, communications and tourism," Jankauskas said.
"In the field of energy our cooperation is well established," the Head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan said. "Now, we are even physically connected by the impressive infrastructure of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC). However, what is has been built and achieved, can be expanded. With some improvements, SGC capacity can be increased, and the Caspian gas could help some countries in Europe to transition faster from coal."
"The second natural area of cooperation is transport and connectivity," Jankauskas said. "Azerbaijan is on the ancient Silk route connecting East and West. We should make this ancient route safe, fast, digital, affordable and competitive. Signature of the Aviation agreement would help Azerbaijan’s ambitions to become a regional transportation hub."
"Over the years European Union has been intensively supporting Azerbaijan’s education and reforms agriculture, rural development and promotion of the small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs)," the Head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan said. "In Europe SMEs are the backbone of the economy contributing to nearly 60 percent of the GDP and providing millions of jobs. Further economic diversification would help Azerbaijan as well to produce more and be able to export more."
"The area that has huge potential and should absolutely become one of the priorities in the post-pandemic world is tourism," Jankauskas added. "Beautiful and hospitable Azerbaijan has a huge potential. More European tourists would discover the country and its traditions, help to develop business ties and contribute to the local economy. Aviation agreement and abolishment of visas would help a lot."
