BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. Owners of cards of some Azerbaijani banks can securely and confidentially make payments through Apple Pay system in Azerbaijan, Musa Jumayev, an expert of the Azerbaijan Banks Association, told Trend.
According to Jumayev, Apple Pay users have an opportunity to make cashless payments without giving their card to others, or touching the buttons of the payment terminal. Every transaction is secure with Apple's innovative technologies.
"When customers add their credit or debit card to Apple Pay, the card numbers aren’t stored on their device or on Apple's servers,” he said. “Instead, the customers are assigned a unique device registration number, which is then encrypted and securely stored in a certified Safe Element chip that meets the device's high industry standards.”
Besides, according to the expert, there are several differences between payments through Apple Pay and a payment transaction through a card.
"A payment transaction in a POS terminal made using a card contains real card data (PAN number, IBAN number, expiration date, CVV, and others). Thus, the confidentiality of card data and, as a result, personal data of a customer is lost,” Jumayev explained. “However when paying through Apple Pay, the party receiving the payment uses the unique device registration number which Apple Pay receives from the Visa or MasterCard networks, rather than the actual card details at the time of the transaction.”
“We call this process tokenization overall, and the virtual equivalents which replaced the real card data - tokens," stressed the expert.
