BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. Over one million hectares of land have been sown with winter crops in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan told Trend.
According to the ministry, the acreage for winter crops increased by 7.8 percent this season.
"A total of 1.044 million hectares were sown in Azerbaijan in the 2022/23 season. The share of grain crops sown this season increased by 2.8 percent compared to the 2021/22 season. Thus, an area of 649,200 hectares is sown with winter grain crops. Some 395,300 hectares were sown with barley, 160 hectares with rye, and 14,000 hectares with forage crops," said the ministry.
It was noted that sowing works are carried out in 60 districts across the country. The autumn grains make up 60 percent of the harvest.
"The sowing of grain and leguminous crops will begin in March," the ministry said.
Azerbaijan’s agricultural output at current prices amounted to 10.98 billion manat ($6.46 billion) in 2022, up by 3.4 percent compared to 2021. In the reporting period, livestock production increased by 3.3 percent, up to 4.9 billion manat ($2.8 billion), while crop production value reached 5.4 billion manat ($3.18 billion), rising by 3.4 percent.
