Azerbaijan’s hydropower capacity up in 2023 - IRENA

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 27. Azerbaijan’s hydropower capacity in 2023 amounted to 1,302 MW, Trend reports.

According to the report prepared by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), renewable energy capacity in the country over the reporting period grew by 11.7 percent year-on-year (1,165 MW in 2021).

At the same time, this figure increased by 12.5 percent, compared to 1,157 MW in 2021, and by 13.3 percent, compared to 1,149 MW in 2020.

The data from the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan shows that electricity generated from renewable energy sources countrywide amounted to 370.2 million kWh from January through February 2024, compared to 178.1 million kWh during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, according to IRENA, worldwide, hydropower capacity reached 1,270 GW, but the growth was slower compared to previous years. Australia, China, Colombia, and Nigeria each added over 0.5 GW.
