The Islamic Republic of Iran is planning to construct a ceramic tiles plant with an annual production capacity of two million square meters in Uzbekistan, PressTV reported.
The Iranian private company, EMG, has undertaken the project which is worth about USD 12 million.
According to Uzbek media reports, an Italian company is set to supply necessary equipment and technology for the plant which is set to be built in Tashkent Province.
Uzbekistan's banks will also provide needed credits to finance the project.
Uzbekistan's domestic tile demand stands at 10 million square meters annually, 85 percent of which is imported.
Uzbek media say the demand for ceramic tiles is growing regularly in the country.
More than 14 million square meters of ceramic tiles have been consumed in Uzbekistan in last five years, about 90 percent of which was imported.
