Iran to export handmade carpets to China
TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.12
Export of carpets to China is a serious plan, which is being implemented by us, the head of National Carpet Center of Iran, Fereshteh Dastpak told reporters in Tehran, Trend reports citing IRNA.
Dastpak said that 3.5 million square meters of carpets are woven in the country every year.
She added that there are 50,000 carpet weavers in Hamadan province, of which 13,000 have carpet weaving cards.
“Carpet weavers who have cards are all insured,” she explained.
Dastpak mentioned the development of online sales as one of the most serious plans to expand the domestic and foreign sales markets.
She added that more than 2 million people work in the country's handmade carpet industry.
“With the least investment, the highest added value can be created regarding handmade rugs, so despite bad economic situation, handmade rugs have always play major role in the country's economic development,” she said.
Referring to the export of 80 percent of the country's handmade carpets, Dastpak noted that Iran held talks on the issue with 15 other countries to expand exports.
"If carpet exports to China begin, there will be a big achievement for the country's handmade carpet industry," she said.
