Deputy Agriculture Minister: Phyto-Sanitary and Veterinary Laboratories in Azerbaijan do not Meet International Standards

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The Deputy Agriculture Minister of Azerbaijan, Bahram Aliyev, said on 27 March that the consultant of the Government of Germany, Lian O`Halmhain, will make a visit to Baku on 28 March to examine the laboratories for defining the quality of the products in Azerbaijan.

According to him, in the process of Azerbaijan's entrance to the World Trade Organization (WTO), it is very important to bring the laboratory work into conformity with the international standards and increase their number.

He considers that it is necessary to cerate accurately regulating laboratories on the borders. "Present laboratories have become old and do not meet contemporary standards. Even they can not define the elements of the agricultural products and ingredient of plasmas imported into the Country," the Deputy Minister said.

According to him, the number of the laboratories necessary for Azerbaijan will be defined on the base of the monitoring held by the international experts. Thereafter, a decision will be made on acquisition and installation of the laboratories on borders and within the Country, Aliyev said.

Lian O`Halmhain will hold trainings and make recommendations to improve the activities of the laboratories.
