Azerbaijan & India Sign Agreement to Establish Intergovernmental Commission

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The first Agreement to establish an intergovernmental commission on co-operation with regards to trade, science and technology was signed in Baku on 11 April. The document was signed by the Azerbaijani Minister for Economic Development, Herydar Babayev and the Indian State Minister for Commerce, Jayram Ramesh, who is visiting Azerbaijan from 10 to 12 April.

Babayev noted that within one to three months the commission will be formed. "The procedure issues usually take a while and after co-ordinating with relevant executive bodies, the President will issue a decree to confirm the staff of the commission and its co-chair," the Minister stated.

This is the first top level visit and the establishment of an intergovernmental commission will promote co-operation between the two countries. During their visit, the Indian delegation also plans to conclude a protocol on 12 April on the result of their visit to Azerbaijan, Ramesh noted.
