SOCAR to launch first seismic survey Babak

'Mammad Suleymanov' research vessel of the Caspian Sea Oil Fleet of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) shipped to sea for seismic survey in the Babak field, located near the Umid field, where the company holds exploratory drilling. This will be the first survey in Babek field.

Both the crew equipped with modern seismo-acoustic equipment and the geological prospecting and topographic studies team of SOCAR Geophysics and Geology Department, went to conduct research. The team will fully explore the prospective gas condensate structure, SOCAR said.

An area of 380 square km will be studied and the seismo-acoustic studies of the upper layers of the cut will be held at a depth of 430 square meters to a depth of 700 meters and topography of the seabed on the area of 150 square km will be scanned.

The survey will be conducted to determine the safe points for drilling exploratory wells. Under the proposals, drilling on this structure will be carried out by a semisubmersible drilling rig in the future.
