Modernization of Navoi TPP to be completed in 2012

The modernization of Navoi TPP, one of the largest thermal power plants in Uzbekistan, will be completed upon schedule - in 2012, a source in the management of Uzbekenergo State Joint Stock Company (SJC) told Trend on Wednesday.

As previously reported, the project of modernization of Navoi TPP worth $468 million includes the construction of combined cycle gas turbine with a capacity of 478 MW.

Financing of the project is implemented at the expense of the Uzbek Reconstruction and Development Fund's loan in amount of $351 million, own funds of Uzbekenergo - $70.2 million and Uzbek banks' loans - $46.8 million.

Uzbekenergo signed a contract with a consortium consisting of Turkish Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret AS and Spanish Initec to modernize Navoi station worth $470 million in August 2009.

The consortium will undertake the construction of combined cycle gas turbine with capacity of 477 MW on a turnkey basis. Construction period is three years. Under the contract, Calik undertakes the construction of the installation, Initec - design and engineering services. Supplier is the Japanese Mitsubishi.

Navoi TPP, one of the largest power plants in Central Asia with an installed capacity of 1,250 MW, was built in 1963 to supply energy for the rapidly developing Kizilkum region.
