Uzbekistan increases electricity generation

Uzbekistan has increased electricity generation by 1.3 percent to 52.416 billion kilowatt-hours last year compared to 2011, the Uzbek State Statistics committee on Tuesday. Power stations in Uzbekistan transferred 18.515 million Gcals of heat energy (0.9 per cent growth) to the population and enterprises.

Electricity generation increased 3.5 percent to 51.712 billion kWh in 2010, and power stations transferred 18.249 million Gcals of heat energy (1.6 per cent decrease) to population and enterprises.

Over 98 percent of the electricity generated in Uzbekistan is produced at power stations under Uzbekenergo established on the basis of the Electricity Ministry.

Forty-five power stations with a total capacity of 12,400 megawatts operate in energy system.

The remaining part of the electricity is generated by autonomous thermal power stations and small hydropower plants.
