He said that out of the total volume of gas delivered by the Gas Export Department in 2017, 1.380 billion cubic meters were exported to Georgia, and 270 million cubic meters were supplied to Iran to meet the gas demand of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is in a blockade as a result of the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia.
“The remaining volume of the gas delivered by the department last year accounted for the domestic needs of Azerbaijan, in particular, 4.725 billion cubic meters were delivered to Azerenerji OJSC (engaged in production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan), 5.813 billion cubic meters - to the Azerigaz Production Union of SOCAR, which deals with the distribution and sale of gas to subscribers in the country, the total number of which was almost 2.01 million as of Jan.1, 2018,” he said.
“Some 2.650 billion cubic meters of gas were delivered to the Azneft Production Union, which is responsible for SOCAR’s development of a number of onshore and offshore fields in Azerbaijan, as well as for gas pumping in two underground gas storage facilities of the country, which are also owned by SOCAR,” he noted.
In turn, Gas Export Department of SOCAR in 2017 received 14.820 billion cubic meters of gas via the main gas pipelines, in particular, 5.689 billion cubic meters as part of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil and gas fields’ development projects (with proven reserves of more than one billion tons of oil) and the Shah Deniz gas condensate field (with reserves of 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas), he said.
He added that 313 million cubic meters of gas were received from companies operating on other fields of the country, and 6.708 billion cubic meters were received from the Azneft Production Union.
