Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev has exceeded the crude oil refining plan by about 20,000 tons over the first eight months of 2019, Ibrahim Ahmadov, deputy head of the public relations and events department at Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, told Trend.
“Over the eight months of 2019, more than 4.17 million tons of crude oil was refined at the Baku Refinery, exceeding the plan by about 20,000 tons,” he said.
Further, speaking about modernization of the refinery, Ahmadov noted that the project envisages design, procurement, construction, and is divided into two packages: construction of new plants and modernization of existing ones.
“The bulk of the work falls on the first package, which overall is 56 percent complete,” he added.
Baku Refinery will increase its capacity from six to eight million tons of products per year after the modernization, while its service life will be extended till 2040.
ELOU AVT unit, operating at Baku Refinery, was built in 1976.
The modernization cost is estimated at approximately $2.2 billion.
