By Nargiz Ismayilova - Trend:

As part of the second stage of the modernization of existing equipment at the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery, the construction of 25 new structures is ongoing, Deputy Head of Public Relations and Events Department at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Ibrahim Ahmadov told Trend.

Ahmadov said that it’s about new technological equipment for manufacturing the products that meet the EURO-5 standards and general factory facilities.

Also, together with the government, the issue of building some additional structures to optimize the pricing chain between the oil refinery and our petrochemical complex in Sumgayit, Azerkimya and SOCAR Polymer, is being considered.

The final decision on this issue can be made in the coming years, when we come closer to completing all the work necessary to obtain better fuel that meets the EURO-5 standard, he said.

SOCAR’s representative noted that a bitumen structure and a liquefied gas filling station were commissioned to this day.

The Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery is one of the largest oil refineries in the Transcaucasian region, located on the Absheron Peninsula. It’s annual productivity is about 4-6 million tons. The refinery aims to increase this figure to 10 million tons.

Higher production volumes at the Heydar Aliyev refinery can be achieved in 2025, when the project for modernization of the refinery, which began in 2015, will fully be completed.
