BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 18

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Kazakhstan has generated 108 billion kWh of electricity in 2020, which is more than the annual plan of 105.2 kWh, Trend reports citing the annual report of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy.

The increase in generation volumes in 2020 is associated with an increase in electricity consumption in the country as a whole and with the export launch of supplies of electricity to Uzbekistan (810.539 million kWh) and Kyrgyzstan (52.581 million kWh).

Furthermore, electricity generation via renewable energy sources amounted to 3.24 billion kWh in 2020 as compared to 3.15 kWh planned for 2020.

Some 25 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 583 MW were actually implemented in 2020, of which 10 were wind power plants with a capacity of 203.45 MW, 1 hydropower plant (4.5 MW), 12 solar power plants (369.65 MW), 2 bioelectric power plants (5.4 MW).

The ministry also said that the volume of investments into these projects amounted to about $510 million.

Thus as of the end of 2020, 115 renewable energy facilities with a total capacity of 1,634.76 MW operate in Kazakhstan. This includes wind power plants with a capacity of 486.3 MW; 911.6 MW of solar power plants; 229.04 MW of hydropower plants; and 7.82 MW of bioelectric power plants.
