BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Work is underway to develop the petrochemical sector in the Ilam Province (western Iran), the Deputy Governor of Ilam Province Ahmad Karami told Trend.

According to Karami, the Ilam Petrochemical Company operates in the province at present. This company has two plants.

Karami added that at the same time, work is underway to supply water from the Galal Dam to the Ilam Petrochemical Company and to manage wastewater from the company's plants.

The deputy governor noted that some work is being done on Iran-Iraq joint oil and gas fields in Ilam Province, but declined to comment in this regard.

“Work in many areas in Iran's Ilam Province is being carried out at the expense of local investment. Only investments in the oil sector belong to Russian investors,” he said.

A part of Iran's joint oil fields with Iraq is located in the Ilam Province. It is estimated these fields contain more than 12 billion barrels of crude oil, of which 75 percent can be extracted. So far, more than 1.1 billion barrels of crude oil have been extracted from these fields.
