Ionian Adriatic Pipeline project company may be created in coming months – Croatian ministry

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27

By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

Establishment of the project company for the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline (IAP), which is set to deliver Azerbaijani gas to Croatia and other Balkan countries, is expected to be completed in the coming months, Croatian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development told Trend.

“The Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline project is still in preparation. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the establishment of the project company has been postponed and we hope that this stage of the project will be completed in the next few months.

Regarding the construction of the interconnection with Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Croatian side submitted the project proposal for the new PCI list as part of a group of projects linked to IAP and we are still waiting for the outcome of that process,” said the ministry.

Ionian Adriatic Pipeline can be connected to the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to transport gas to many countries in South-East Europe.

The pipeline with total length of 516 kilometers will stretch from Albania through Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, to split in Croatia.

The capacity of the pipeline will amount to five billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Azerbaijan started gas deliveries to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the final leg of the Southern Gas Corridor, on December 31, 2020. TAP has the capacity to transport approximately 10 billion cubic meters of gas per annum (bcm/a) to several markets in Europe. The pipeline is also designed with the potential to expand its throughput capacity up to 20 bcm/a. TAP plays a significant role in boosting Europe’s energy security, supply diversification, as well as decarbonisation objectives.
