Haldor Topsoe says hybrid approach to reduce carbon emissions

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 18

By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

Haldor Topsoe believes that the integration of renewable power and renewable feedstocks with existing refineries and chemical plants –a hybrid approach – is a very promising way to decrease carbon emissions in most efficient way in the nearest future, the company told Trend.

“For the chemicals industry, we offer second-to-none technologies for low-carbon methanol and ammonia production. Today, these two chemicals are also seen as potential low-carbon energy carriers and alternative fuels. For instance, ammonia is considered a very promising carbon-free marine fuel.

We participate in several ongoing industrial projects in low-carbon ammonia and methanol in different parts of the world,” the company said.

Haldor Topsoe said it also offers own solutions in electrolysis – based on Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells (SOEC).

“The SOEC can use renewable power (solar, wind, hydro etc.) to electrolyze water into green hydrogen – and it is significantly more efficient than the other electrolysis solutions available today.

The green hydrogen can be used directly in industry or as a fuel – or it can be further processed into green fuels and chemicals such as ammonia and methanol.

As the price of renewable power continues to drop, these carbon-neutral products become more and more competitive instead of the traditional carbon-intensive technologies,” said the company.
