BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 17. Iran plans to increase daily electricity generation of the country's hydroelectric power plants by 20 percent this summer, compared to last summer, an official of the Iranian Water Resources Management Company Javad Hajiani said, Trend reports citing Iranian Energy Ministry.

According to him, the country's hydroelectric power plants are expected to generate 55,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per day this summer.

"Meanwhile, in the last summer, an average of 46,188 megawatt-hours of electricity was generated per day," Hajiani added.

The official noted that the country’s HPPs will be able to generate electricity with a maximum capacity of 12,187 megawatt-hours.

"Due to power units with a capacity to generate 315 megawatt-hours of electricity did not operate for certain reasons (lack of funding and spare parts) in the last summer, the figure stood at 11,872 megawatt-hours," he said.

At present, there are 162 power units in 59 hydroelectric power plants in Iran.
