About 75% of transactions in government bonds fall on primary market

In January-August 2019, the total volume of operations on government securities on the Baku Stock Exchange amounted to 8.532 billion manats, and their number reached 1,421, Trend reports referring to the exchange’s data.

During the same period of 2018, the volume of operations on government bonds was 8.519 billion manats. As a result, the growth in the total volume of transactions in the first eight months amounted to 0.15 percent.

Among the operations, 1,046 transactions worth 7.926 billion manats were made in the primary market, which is 5.6 percent less than in January-August 2018. About 76 percent of these transactions (803) were made regarding short-term notes of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) in the total amount of 7.444 billion manats (a decrease of 4.3 percent).

As many as 375 operations totaling 605.521 million manats accounted for the secondary market of state securities. The share was 7 percent of the total amount and 26 percent of the total number of transactions.

REPO transactions on government securities amounted to 716.415 million manats (an increase of 41 percent). In total, in January-August 2019, 352 repo transactions were carried out at the Baku Stock Exchange. This is 96 transactions more than in the first eight months of the previous year.
