Uzbekistan achieves positive economic growth despite global pandemic

Uzbekistan achieved positive economic growth of 1.6 percent despite situation in the global economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan.

The statement was made at a global video conference, with participation of Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan, together with Raiffeisen Bank International, as well as about 30 international investors.

According to the ministry, international investors were familiarized with information on Uzbekistan's economic growth indicators, long-term factors of expected economic growth, fiscal policy and public debt, monetary policy instruments and their impact on inflation.

The investors highly appreciated the direction of funds received from international bonds placed in national currency to finance a number of projects to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of Uzbekistan, monitoring the implementation of projects together with international experts and further widespread implementation of this practice in other investment projects.

In addition, answers were given to questions from international investors about the continuation of the country's privatization program, structural and institutional reforms, basic plans and targets for financial plans and monetary policy for 2021.

According to the State Statistics Committee, in general, last year in Uzbekistan investments in fixed assets were spent on 202 trillion soums ($19 billion).
