Payment terminals losing popularity in Azerbaijan - Central Bank

The average number of users per payment terminal in Azerbaijan, including ATMs and POS terminals, decreased by 40 people in the first quarter of 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, amounting to 4,050 people, Trend reports citing the statistics of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

As reported, the average monthly amount of transactions per ATM reached 784,300 manat or $461,353 (3,420 transactions), which is 6.9 percent more compared to the same period last year.

“The average monthly amount of one transaction through an ATM in the specified period amounted to 229.6 manat ($135), and the average monthly amount of transactions through one POS terminal – 7,080 manat or $4,164 (for 132 transactions). The average monthly size of one transaction through a POS terminal amounted to 53.6 manat ($31.5),” the CBA stated.

“As of early April, 2,763 ATMs operated in Azerbaijan, of which 1,451 are in Baku, 1,312 are in other cities and districts of the country. At the same time, the number of ATMs in the country increased by 3.2 percent on annual basis,” the bank noted.

The number of POS-terminals in Azerbaijan during the first quarter of 2021 amounted to 58,184, of which 38,421 were installed in Baku, 19,763 - in other cities and districts of Azerbaijan. Their number for the year decreased by 12,943, or 18.2 percent.
