BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. The number of plastic cards in circulation amounted to 56.8 million cards as of March 1, 2022, in Kazakhstan, which is 13.07 percent more than as of March 1, 2021 (50.2 million cards), Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s National Bank.
Of the total number of cards in circulation, 44.2 million cards were debit cards, 10.8 million cards were credit cards, and 1.7 million were other types of cards.
Furthermore, of the total number of cards in circulation, 29.1 million were used as of March 1, 2022, compared to 27.3 million cards last year, which indicates a 6.6 percent increase year-on-year.
The largest number of debit cards in circulation was registered in Nur-Sultan city (14.4 million cards). Nur-Sultan city is followed by Almaty city (3.6 million cards) and Shymkent city (2.6 million cards).
In turn, the greatest number of credit cards also was registered in Nur-Sultan city (4.6 million cards), which is followed by Shymkent (860,000 cards) and Almaty city (797,000 cards).
The total number of payment systems operating in Kazakhstan is 17, including those of the National Bank, systems of money transfers, and systems of plastic cards.
