The head of the IIT structural unit, Yadigar Aliyev said the Institute is currently working to assess the security of identification documents, define the appropriate criteria of both producers and the needs of Azerbaijan on this issue.

The Institute regularly holds talks and exchange views with the companies offering both individual technologies and integrated solutions for the creation of biometric ID systems. This is ready-made solutions for border control points, the ID registration offices, telecommunications solutions and equipment for ID production, microchips, etc. Offers of companies are regularly presented to the Cabinet of Ministers, in accordance with what, a tender will be announced in the future.

Imamverdiyev said a computer recognizes only two lines in IDs and passports, currently used in Azerbaijan and that meet the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization. A new generation of IDs containing microchips will carry more information about the owner. Every citizen of Azerbaijan will get its identification number and will automatically be placed in a database of internal affairs and security, migration service, justice and tax inspection. This will allow controlling border security, as well as fighting against illegal migration and organized crime.
