The Postal Administration of Azerbaijan elected member of the Board of Trustees of Quality of Service Fund (QSF) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the Ministry of transport, communications and high technology told Trend on April 25.

The election was held in the framework of the spring session of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) which was held in the Swiss city of Bern from 16 to 20April.

Candidates from five geographical regions of the world were nominated for membership in the Board over the next three years. The representative of Azerbaijan was among the candidates from Eastern Europe and North Asia regions.

By a majority vote, the candidate from Azerbaijan was re-elected as a member of Board of Trustees of Quality of Service Fund. The Board consists of representatives of 11 countries of the world.

According to the UPU statement, Nasir Gamidov, the chief consultant of the postal sector of the Ministry of communications of Azerbaijan, is assigned the functions of the member of the Board of Trustees of the Fund from Azerbaijan.

QSF was created by a decision of the Beijing UPU Congress in 1999 and is intended to finance projects aimed at improving the quality of activity of postal administrations in developing countries.

The purpose of the Fund is to improve the quality of the service of international written correspondence, first of all to reduce the time of passage, to ensure stability, and to improve the safety of postal items.

The Fund's Board of Trustees is responsible for: reviewing, presenting findings and approving projects developed by the postal administrations of developing countries aimed at improving the quality of postal services in those countries.

Projects can be accepted for funding from QSF funds only if they are approved by the Board of Trustees.
