The data transfer speed in the AzScienceNet scientific network of the Institute of Information Technologies (IIT) under Azerbaijan's National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) will be increased from the current 1.4 gigabit to three gigabits per second, the IIT told Trend.

The IIT has prepared a work plan to expand cooperation with the European research network GEANT until 2020, which envisages the signing of a memorandum on cooperation between AzScienceNet and GEANT and the creation of a working group.

"The plans include strengthening regional connection by connecting the optical infrastructures of AzScienceNet and the Georgian GRENA. The work also includes increasing the number of connections of research and educational institutions of Azerbaijan to AzScienceNet, expanding the coverage of wireless internet services, creating the Eduroam services website (eduroam.az), launching the eduGAIN, eduVPN services, creating the PerfSONAR network monitoring system, etc.," the IIT said.

Presently, AzScienceNet resources are used for the needs of scientists and ANAS structural divisions. Azerbaijani scientists have access to cloud computing services, which are based in the DATA-center of the IIT.
