TeliaSonera Company Expands Its Activity in  Eurasia

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Babayeva / TeliaSonera AB, the leading telecommunications group in the Nordic-Baltic region,  signed an agreement to acquire up to 100% of the outstanding shares in MCT Corp. (MCT) is a US-based company with a majority share in three Eurasian GSM operators in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and a minority interest in the leading GSM operator in Afghanistan.

The four GSM operators are -Uzbek-American Joint Venture "Coscom" LLC (Coscom), the third largest mobile operator in Uzbekistan. MCT has a 99.97 % interest in Coscom.CJSC "Indigo Tajikistan" (Indigo-Tajikistan) and CJSC Joint Venture "Somoncom" (Somoncom) combined the second largest mobile operation in Tajikistan. MCT has 60.0 % interest in Indigo-Tajikistan and 59.4 % interest in Somoncom. "Telecom Development Company Afghanistan Limited" (Roshan), the largest mobile operator in Afghanistan. MCT has a 12.25 % interest in Roshan.

TeliaSonera is the result of a 2002 merger between the Swedish and Finnish telecommunications companies, Telia and Sonera.

TeliaSoneraAB is the dominant telephone company and mobile network operator in Sweden and Finland , and is also active in other countries in Northern and Eastern Europe . The Company is a shareholder to Azerbaijan's mobile operator Azercell Telecom through Fintur Holdings BV, with 58.55% of Fintur's share belonging to TeliaSonera.
