Deputy Director of Iran's Chabahar Free Zone Gholamreza Panah announced that there's a need for a new airport to be built on the zone's territory.

Speaking with Trend, he noted that the airport should be able to attract foreign investors.

"The land of the new airport in the Chabahar port is at the eastern side of the Free Zone. Nowadays, the new airport for Chabahar is necessary, as the current airport cannot accommodate this volume of passengers," he told Trend.

“The cooperation of the private sector in the construction of Chabahar Airport is necessary,” he said. "We are negotiating with the private sector for the construction of the airport."

"Currently, the flights from Oman to Chabahar are being carried out through the Kenarak airport,” he said. “But the flights from Pakistan, Oman, the UAE and even India will be established at new airport."

“The Chabahar Free Zone Organization has extensive economic relations with these countries,” he added.

"If the construction and operation of the new airport is completed in the short term, it is probable that we will either leave the Kenarak airport to the army or abandon it, but if the construction takes more time, we will have to continue to use the current airport,” he said.
