Experts make forecasts for Georgia's post-COVID tourism industry recovery

The number of foreign tourists in Georgia will return to the level of 2019 no earlier than 2023, Trend reports via the study conducted by PMC Sociological Center.

Tourism industry experts who were involved in the study expressed their views on the prospects for the industry development in the post-COVID period.

Most experts, namely 53.3 percent, believe that the sector will return to the 2019 level in 2023, while 26.7 percent are more pessimistic in this regard forecasting the sector’s return to 2019 levels in 2024.

Some 60 percent of experts predict that the sector’s revenues will reach 20-40 percent of 2019 level in 2021.

At the same time, none of the experts believe that in 2021 the revenues of the tourism industry will exceed 60 percent of the 2019 figure.

As reported, in 2019 the revenues of the tourism sector exceeded $3 billion, the number of foreign visitors exceeded 7.7 million.
