There are 3,300 kilometers of railroad running in the country, 840 kilometers of which has been commissioned within the last two and a half years, deputy minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran said.
"The priority of the ministry was to connect five provincial centers to the country's rail network,” Kheirollah Khademi said on the sidelines of opening ceremony of Sanandaj Railway Station on Jan.19, Trend reports citing IRNA.
“Now, connecting the provinces of Kurdistan, Ardebil and others to the rail network is among the priorities of the ministry for the next two years,” said Khademi.
Khademi pointed out that one of the new rail routes to the west of the country is the Hamedan-Kordestan Railway with a distance of 151 kilometers.
The deputy minister added that to complete this railway consisting of five stations along the route, of $214 million is needed.
“The progress of the project's infrastructure is to 73 percent by now,” Khademi said.
He emphasized that Sanandaj highway to Tehran will also be completed in year 2021.
“The highway continues to Marivan and Bashmaq, and we hope to complete the construction in 2022," he said.
