Containers cargo handling skyrockets at Kazakhstan's Aktau port

Over 1.3 million tons of oil were handled in Kazakhstan’s Aktau sea port during first seven months of 2020, which is 5 percent more compared to the same period of last year (1.2 million), a representative of Kazakhstan’s Aktau port told Trend.

The representative said that grain handling in the port stood at 373,412 tons during the reporting period of 2020, which is 14 percent less compared to 433,945 tons over seven months of 2019. In turn, metal handling at the port amounted to 9,502 tons from January through July 2020, which is 78 percent less compared to the same period of last year (44,866 tons).

The handling of other cargo amounted to 281,612 tons during the reporting period of 2020, which is 7 percent more year-on-year compared to 264,358 during the same period of 2019. Some 1,941 tons of ferry cargo were also handled in the port during first seven months of 2020, which were not being handled at all in 2019.

Thus, overall volume of cargo handled in the port from January through July 2020 was 1.979 million tons, which is 1 percent more compared to the same period of 2019 (1.977 million tons).

The port representative also noted that 122,412 tons of cargo were transported via containers, which is five times more than during the same period of last year (24,400 tons).

Currently, there are three operating seaports in Kazakhstan: Aktau, Bautino and Kuryk.

Nowadays, Aktau International Commercial Sea Port is a modern multi-purpose terminal that allows the transportation of goods from East to West, from North to South and back 12 months a year and 24 hours a day.

Bautino сargo port is a division of Aktau International Commercial Sea Port, and is located in the village of Bautino (150 km from the city of Aktau), in the waters of the Bautino Bay of Tyubkaragansky Gulf.

Kuryk Port is located on the coast of the Caspian Sea, south of Aktau city. The port has direct access to the railway. The ferry complex of the port is designed for transshipment of goods, including grain, petroleum products, fertilizers and chemicals.
