By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

A decrease of 18.7 percent was recorded in the transshipment of railway wagons at the ferry terminal of the Baku International Sea Trade Port in 2021, Trend reports via the port's data.

"In 2021, the number of railway cars transported via the Baku port amounted to 30,426, out of which 20,867 were carried along the Baku-Turkmenbashi-Baku route (68.6 percent), and 9,559 - Baku-Kuryk/Aktau-Baku route (31.4 percent). Despite a reduction in the transport of heavy goods vehicles (TIR) in 2021 compared to 2020, the figure increased by 17 percent compared to 2019. Even with a certain decline in the percentage of the above areas, the positive trend has been maintained in total cargo handled," the port stated.

In general, the results obtained by the Baku port in 2021 were assessed positively, and the forecast for it was fulfilled by 104 percent.

“The growth in cargo transshipment by the Baku port is directly characterized as an increase in Azerbaijan's non-oil GDP and strengthens the country's position as a transport and logistics hub in the region,” said the port.
