Iran sees rise in maritime transportation

TEHRAN, Iran, Mar.14

Trend:

Iran Trade Promotion Organization and Khazar Sea Shipping Lines Company to increase maritime transportation and travels, Managing Director of Khazar Sea Shipping Lines Company Davood Tafti told Trend in an interview.

The official has indicated that the focus on maritime transportation increased in the past two years based on export security, time, and cost.

He went on to say that the statistics show export via sea is increasing, and businesses trust maritime transportation.

Iran has boosted export to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) via combined transportation in the past year.

"Iran has increased international cargo transfer in recent years," he stressed.

Iran has signed an agreement with the Caspian Sea countries to enhance cargo transportation that included the deal with the Kazakhstan railway which is located in the International North-South Transportation Corridor.

According to Tafti, Iran has limitations for export and import via the Caspian Sea therefore it expanded international cargo transfer and created new markets.

The market in the INSTC route and East to West Corridor created a good atmosphere to develop transportation. Afghanistan and Iraq cargo transportation to the CIS is done via Iran and the Caspian Sea transit route.
