EDB to allocate fund for Kulanak HPP construction in Kyrgyzstan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 2. Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), Ruslan Dalenov, and Director of Naryn Production Enterprise LLC, Kutubai Murzabayev, signed an agreement on financing the construction of Kulanak hydropower plant (HPP) worth 100 mW in Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports with reference to the EDB.

According to the EDB representative, the construction of Kulanak HPP is an important step in the realization of key investment of the EDB Water and Energy Complex of Central Asia megaproject.

According to the data, the capacity of Kulanak HPP will amount to 100 mW with an annual energy generation of 435 billion kWh. The power plant will be located on the Naryn River near Kulanak village in the Naryn District of Kyrgyzstan, on a territory of 485,410 hectares.

Launching of Kulanak HPP will allow to strengthen of Kyrgyz positions in Central Asia, reduce energy deficiency in the region, as well as to increase the energy security of the country.

Within the project, some 835 new workplaces will be created. The new power plant will also benefit the ability to regulate the daily load schedule of the operation of solar stations and wind generation.

As Dalenov pointed out, the operation of the new HPP will allow to increase the territory of irrigated agriculture areas of the country by 1.5 times, up to 6,769 hectares.

The cost of the project is almost $117 million, and both the Russian Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKF) and the EBD plan to finance the project on a parity basis.
