Kyrgyzstan's brown, black coal production jumps up

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 27. A total of 1.6 million tons of brown coal (lignite) were produced in Kyrgyzstan from January through August 2023, which is a 5.1 percent increase compared to the same period in 2022 (1.523 million tons), Trend reports.

As per the State Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan, brown coal production in August within the country amounted to 207,000 tons, which is 32 percent less than in August of the previous year (304,700 tons).

At the same time, the production of black coal in Kyrgyzstan reached 376,500 tons from January through August 2023, increasing 10.3 percent compared to the same period in 2022 (341,500 tons).

In August 2023, 68,600 tons of black coal were produced in Kyrgyzstan, which is a 38-percent increase compared to August 2022 (49,600 tons).

In total, Kyrgyzstan’s coal production volumes, including both black coal and brown coal, increased by 6.6 percent from January through August 2023 on an annual basis.

The total value of industrial production in Kyrgyzstan for the period from January through August 2023 amounted to approximately 289 billion soms ($3.2 billion), up by 0.3 percent year-on-year.
